Duties

The 911 Telecommunicator works in the Sheriff’s Office enhanced 911 Communications center.  Answers 911 lines, non-emergency administrative lines, and obtains and properly verifies the location of service. Assists and instructs callers using Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and fire protocols. Gathers necessary information for responders. Utilizes the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for call processing and dispatching, mapping, monitoring and reporting. Operates a computerized, multi-channel two-way radio to transmit and receive messages, and monitor responder activity.  Operates the telephone system to include transferring, speed dial and other functions essential to daily operations. Makes notification and relays information as needed. Completes required continuing education to maintain certifications. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Starting Pay

Minimum Salary $40,000, Mid-Point Salary $42,475, and Maximum Salary $52,276 DOQ plus $2,000 Associate or $4,000 Bachelor’s Degree educational incentive, 401K Benefit, and longevity benefits.

Longevity Pay is as followed to current base salary.

  • 1st Five Year Interval 1.5%
  • 2nd Five Year Interval 2.25%
  • 3rd Five Year Interval 3.25%
  • 4th Five Year Interval 4.50%
  • Each Additional Five Year Interval 4.50%

Interested applicants must complete an Applicant Background Package. Packages may be picked up or mailed out Monday through Friday from 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m. at the Beaufort County Sheriffs Office located at 210 North Market Street in Washington. Application packets are also available online at beaufortcountysheriff.org. There is no application deadline for this position. Applications are continuously accepted for all positions at the Sheriffs Office and maintained for 120 days. After initial screening, a background investigation may be conducted on Application Packets to determine suitability. The background investigation will include at a minimum: contacting references and employers, a credit report screening, a physical exam, a psychological exam and a drug screen.
