BEAUFORT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
On Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at about 2:00 P.M. Beaufort County Emergency Communications received a 911 call from an elderly resident of Highway 102 in Chocowinity. While speaking with the 911 Tele-communicator, the caller threatened to shoot himself. Beaufort County Deputies, and Chocownity EMS Personnel were dispatched to the home. Deputies arrived within minutes and were able to move the man’s wife a safe distance from the home. Minutes later Deputies heard a single gunshot come from inside the home. A perimeter was established around the single wide trailer and Hwy 102 was immediately shut down by Deputies and Troopers with the NC State Highway Patrol.
Multiple unsuccessful attempts were made to contact the victim and after about an hour with no contact, Deputies made entry into the home to find 74 year old Jimmie Lee Stokesberry Jr., dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation is still on going at this time.
