On September 9, 2014 at approximately 9:06 p.m., Corporal William Boyd with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling the Highway 306 South area of Aurora. Cpl. Boyd observed a vehicle operating with improper equipment and conducted a traffic stop. Boyd made contact with the driver and retrieved a NC driver’s license. After learning that the driver’s license provided was revoked, Cpl. Boyd arrested the driver and transported him to the Magistrate’s Office. The driver was processed under the name on the driver’s license and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $500.00 secured bond.

The driver was processed and fingerprinted upon entry into the Detention Center. During the fingerprint submission process, the driver’s prints were identified as belonging to Stacy Jones, age 33 of Main Street Extension in Edward, NC. Jones had used his brother’s driver’s license during the traffic stop and had been charged using his brother’s name. As a result, Cpl. Boyd applied for and obtained a warrant charging Jones with Identity Theft and Driving While License Revoked. Jones was served and held in the Detention Center under a $6,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.
