On 07/02/2018 Beaufort County Animal Control responded to 317 Davis Lane in Pinetown to investigate a complaint of possible animal cruelty.  Upon discovering several emaciated dogs with no access to food or water Animal Control contacted the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.   Deputies responded and began conducting an investigation into the ownership and treatment of the dogs.

After serving a search warrant on the overgrown property, Deputies and Animal Control Officers found 8 separate sites on the property where dogs were kept in pens. They located the skeletal remains of 5 dogs, 1 dead adult dog and 2 dead puppies.  Thirty two live dogs were seized, most of which were classified as Walker Deer Hounds.  After being assessed by a veterinarian one of the 32 seized was immediately euthanized because of its poor condition.  In the following days the remaining dogs were evaluated by a veterinarian and are currently being held by Animal Control.

On 07/11/2018 after assessing the evidence and conducting interviews, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Investigators charged Kenneth William Davis, age 29 of Belhaven and Leanne Nicole Alvarez, age 24 of Belhaven with 34 counts each of Felony Cruelty to Animals and 6 counts each of Felony Killing an Animal by Starvation.   Lloyd Nelson Davis, age 44 also of Belhaven was charged with 5 counts of Felony Cruelty to Animals and 1 count of Felony Killing an Animal by Starvation.

All three were served with the arrest warrants on 07/11/2018.  Kenneth Davis and Leanne Alvarez were each ordered held on a $100,000.00 secured bond.  Lloyd Davis was ordered held on a $15,000.00 secured bond.
