Since 1998, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has helped neighborhoods and communities set up Community Watch groups.  Sheriff Ernie Coleman knows the value of having citizens to be on the lookout for suspicious activity and for them to report it law enforcement. Community Watch is neighbors looking out for each other. Community Watch is a crime prevention program which enlists the active participation of Citizens in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in their communities. Community Watch helps neighbors to get to know each other and work together to mutually prevent crime. We teach participants to recognize and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.  To help combat criminal activity, Sheriff Coleman directed his Patrol Division to spend more time in neighborhoods.  Our “Neighborhood Checklist” documented over 10,000 neighborhood checks in 2020.  Assigning each patrol shift a rotating list for neighborhoods to be checked on.  If you are interested in setting up a neighborhood watch, please contact Lt. Kelly J. Cox at 252-402-3363 or by email at kcox@co.beaufort.nc.us for more information.  Please click on the link below for more details.
