An involuntary commitment is not issued by the Sheriff’s Office. Commitment orders are issued by a magistrate or other judicial official. Once the order has been received by the Sheriff’s Office, immediate service will be attempted. Once served, the individual is transported by local law enforcement to the nearest medical/mental health facility for evaluation by qualified medical/mental health personnel. After evaluation, if medical/mental health personnel determine that the individual is to be committed, the Sheriff’s Office will provide transportation to the designated mental health facility.
