About the event



The North Carolina Fossil Festival is a free, family-friendly weekend celebrating the Aurora Fossil Museum and North Carolina’s incredible fossil record, with special ticketed events throughout the festival.

  • Fossil digging pits, fossil displays, and a fin‑tastic silent auction

  • STEAM Zone with hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math activities for kids and families

  • Paleo Zone at the Aurora Community Center, where collectors and paleontologists share real fossil collections and answer questions (no sales in this area)

  • Dinosaur show, live entertainment, and food and craft vendors, plus partner nonprofit displays and more

  • Jurassic Classic bicycle ride fundraiser benefiting the Aurora Fossil Museum (hosted by Flythe’s Bike Shop)

  • NC Fossil Fest 5K Run and Virtual 5K, with the in‑person 5K on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 8:00 AM, and the virtual run through May 31, 2026
