Lieutenant Recognized for Professionalism and Intervention with Marine in Crisis
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, at approximately 4:30PM, Lieutenant Waters was patrolling the US 17 Business area near Speedway in Chocowinity when he responded to a BOLO for an active-duty Marine experiencing suicidal thoughts. Lieutenant Waters quickly located a vehicle matching the description from the alert and made contact with the Marine at the gas pumps. Today, Corporal Davis spent the day with students at Eastern Elementary School, sharing information about the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Drone Program. The students had the opportunity to learn how drones help our deputies with public safety, search operations, and protecting our community. Open Door Women's Shelter
Today Beaufort County took another step in the right direction in providing assistance to women in need. Open Door Women's Shelter celebrated the opening of their new addition with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new section adds 3,000 square feet to the facility and a total of 25 beds. This includes two, two-bedroom dormitories for families, and 11 beds and lockers for single women. This facility will help both single women and women with children who are unhoused. Sheriff

Period Power Program: Supporting Students in Beaufort & Hyde County
No student should have to choose between having their period and going to school. 331 Beaufort County Students Graduate the D.A.R.E. Program

The 2025 Partnership Food Drive Was a Huge Success!
Beaufort County residents stepped up in a big way in 2025! Carlie C's Store Manager Bill Marlow set a goal of providing 2,000 food bags, and once again, they succeeded in their goal and provided more bags of food than any of the 32 store locations in North and South Carolina. Partnership to Provide Food to Those In Need Continues
Thanks to the generosity of our community, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has distributed over 1,600 bags of food throughout Beaufort County to food banks, blessing boxes, and charitable organizations that ensure those in need have access to food. United Way Inner Banks and Rotary Clubs of Washington have partnered to provide a full Thanksgiving meal to those in need. These Thanksgiving meal boxes are being given away at P.S. Jones Middle School today while supplies last. You will need to bring your SNAP card and photo ID to receive your free box.

Toys for Tots Collection
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has partnered with Toys for Tots to provide toys to those who are less fortunate this Christmas! You can drop off your new, unwrapped toy at our front office, located at 210 N Market Street in Washington. No toy weapons, including Nerf guns and water guns. Help spread the holiday cheer by giving to this worthy cause!
