The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, along with multiple local, state, and federal partners, proudly completed Leg 6 of the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics North Carolina.
Law enforcement officers throughout North Carolina are carrying the Special Olympics Flame of Hope across the state throughout April and May. Traveling from six different points and spanning more than 2,000 miles, the relays will culminate on Friday, May 29, with the Circle of Honor and lighting of the cauldron at the 2026 Special Olympics NC Summer Games Opening Ceremony in Raleigh.
This local leg featured runners from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Chocowinity Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Washington Police Department, North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, North Carolina Marine Patrol, North Carolina State Parks, North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, Department of Adult Corrections, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Beaufort County Community College BLET Cadets. We appreciate everyone in the community who came out to support and cheer on law enforcement as we carried the Flame of Hope.
As the largest awareness campaign for the Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics North Carolina, law enforcement members, known as Guardians of the Flame, are part of a worldwide movement championing acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities, beginning right here in our own communities.
Torch Run merchandise is still available for purchase at the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office while supplies last. Cash or check accepted.
Thank you to our community, partner agencies, volunteers, and supporters for helping make the 2026 Torch Run a success.
