Domestic Dispute at Rest Area Results in Stabbing

On April 29, 2026, at approximately 2:30 am, deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Rest Area in Chocowinity regarding a report of an individual being stabbed. Upon arrival, deputies learned the altercation began as a verbal argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend. The argument escalated to a physical altercation. During the altercation, the female retrieved a knife, and the two fought over it, resulting in the female sustaining a laceration to her hand and the male being stabbed in the chest.
The male then ran to an RV that was parked nearby to seek help. The occupant of the RV, a retired paramedic, rendered aid until first responders arrived. The male was transported to ECU Health in Greenville and has since been admitted to the hospital. The female was taken to ECU Health Beaufort and was discharged shortly after. This case is still under investigation, and no charges have been taken out at this time.
