On April 17, 2026, deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received information that 37-year-old Clinton Alexander Daniel of Chocowinity, NC had strangled his 4-year-old son.

A welfare check with Beaufort County Child Protective Services and Detectives found the child in his mother's care and not in immediate danger. The child was taken to ECU Beaufort Hospital and has since been released into his mother's care.

As a result of the investigation, Clinton Daniel was taken into custody on April 22, 2026, after his release from a medical facility in Ahoskie, NC, and served with a warrant for Attempted First-Degree Murder and Assault by Strangulation. Clinton is in custody at Beaufort County Detention Center, where he is held with no bond.
