Four Individuals Charged Following Aurora Child Gunshot Investigation

On July 11, 2026, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to the town of Aurora in reference to a gunshot wound involving a minor child. Currently, the child is in stable condition at ECU Greenville.
Deputies and Detectives located the scene of the shooting, the vehicles involved, the suspects involved, as well as locating and seizing the weapon involved in the incident.
A search warrant was served at the minor child’s mother’s residence, resulting in an additional stolen firearm being recovered. After a thorough investigation, Detectives with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office have arrested and charged the following individuals:
34-year-old Atiyah Kewanna Sanders of Aurora, NC is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center under no bond.
Felony Child Abuse
Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
46-year-old Cedric Jerome Corey of Washington, NC is being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

28-year-old Unique Isaiah Kentwan Windley of Raleigh, NC is being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under no bond.

21-year-old Dezmond Jaquil Ward Corey of Washington, NC is being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
