Sheriff Hammonds continues to represent Beaufort County through his active involvement with several committees of the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association (NCSA).
Sheriff Hammonds currently serves on the Auditing, Legislative, and Activities Committees, working alongside Sheriffs from across North Carolina to strengthen the Office of Sheriff and better serve citizens throughout the state.
Auditing Committee – 2 Years
The Auditing Committee meets in the spring to review financial reports from the previous year with the Executive Vice-President and General Counsel, meet with the Association’s CPAs, discuss the previous year’s accounting review or audit and review tax returns. The committee also meets in the fall to review the Annual Business Conference financial report and other financial reports for the current year and when appropriate, make budget-related recommendations to the Executive Committee.
Legislative Committee – 3 Years
The Legislative Committee works to secure new or remedial legislation at the State or Federal level that may benefit Sheriffs and the citizens they serve. The committee also works to oppose proposed laws that may be detrimental to the Office of Sheriff or contrary to the best interests of the public.
Activities Committee – 3 Years
The Activities Committee plans the agenda for the upcoming NCSA Annual Business Conference, Spring Meeting and Fall Meeting. This includes an evaluation and suggested changes in the training schedule, role of vendors and exhibitors, activities, format of Annual Banquet, type of social events to be held in conjunction with these events, as well as any other matters related to these events.
Sheriff Hammonds’ involvement at the state level allows Beaufort County to have a voice in important discussions while he continues his commitment to serving the citizens of our county.
