From Sheriff Hammonds
In this month’s newsletter, I want to share how our team has been serving you and how we can keep Beaufort County safe together. In March, we worked side by side with our community through changing weather, public safety challenges, and visits to local schools and partner organizations.
As we move into April, I’m asking families to join me in focusing on child safety and abuse prevention, and I invite you to participate in our upcoming events, say hello to our deputies and staff members, and let us know how we can help serve you and our county.
Thank you for your trust and for partnering with us to keep Beaufort County safe.
Looking Back at March
Public Safety Incidents
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office shared several important updates to help residents stay safe and informed. We posted alerts about strong storms, higher wildfire risk that led to a statewide burn ban, and new scams targeting people in our area, as well as a major kidnapping case that crossed state lines.

Community Engagement Stories
Our deputies spent time in local schools, supported a women’s shelter, and honored one of our lieutenants who helped a Marine in crisis. These activities gave us a chance to meet members of our community, answer questions, and build trust. We value these moments to work side by side with our community, not just when there is an emergency.

April Safety Tips: Child Safety & Abuse Prevention
As one of the three pillars of our A.C.E. of Hearts Initiative, we place a high value on our children’s safety and work every day to help create spaces where they can grow and thrive. The safety tips below are meant to give you practical tools so you can join us in that mission and help protect the children in your care.
Spot signs of abuse: Watch for unexplained injuries, sudden behavior changes, fear of going home, or poor hygiene. Report suspicions to the Beaufort County Department of Social Services at (252) 975-5500.
Promote online safety: Teach kids not to share personal info online, set privacy and parental controls on devices; discuss stranger danger on social media.
Prevent bullying: Encourage bystander intervention at school, report incidents to teachers or school resource officers, and make sure children in your care have a safe person to express themselves to.
Secure your home: Install window locks, use car seats/booster seats correctly, and keep poisons/firearms inaccessible.
