Grand Jury Returns Indictment in 2023 Death Investigation
On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Beaufort County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against 24-year-old Brady O’Neil Daniels of Wallace, NC, charging him with the murder of Billy Joe Bell in 2023. Death Investigation
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in a wooded area near Pamlico Plantation in Washington NC. Upon arrival, Deputies located two decedents identified as 80-year-old Gary Dennis Halford and 78-year-old Danee Louise Halford of Washington NC. Though this document looks official, it is yet another attempt to scam you out of your hard earned money. Don't take the bait. Statewide Ban on Open Burning in Effect Until Further Notice
Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.
Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued . The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183

Lieutenant Recognized for Professionalism and Intervention with Marine in Crisis
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, at approximately 4:30PM, Lieutenant Waters was patrolling the US 17 Business area near Speedway in Chocowinity when he responded to a BOLO for an active-duty Marine experiencing suicidal thoughts. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received a report of a scam where a person claiming to be a lawyer told a resident her local church pastor was involved in a crash that injured a pregnant woman and was in jail. Two Suspects Arrested in South Dakota on Kidnapping Charges
On March 9, 2026, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing 36-year-old intellectually disabled endangered female resident of Beaufort County. Open Door Women's Shelter
Today Beaufort County took another step in the right direction in providing assistance to women in need. Open Door Women's Shelter celebrated the opening of their new addition with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new section adds 3,000 square feet to the facility and a total of 25 beds. This includes two, two-bedroom dormitories for families, and 11 beds and lockers for single women. This facility will help both single women and women with children who are unhoused. Sheriff

Joint Investigation Disrupts Fentanyl and Cocaine Distribution Network

Countless Lives Saved in Fight Against Fentanyl in Beaufort County
